Frequently Asked Questions
What is a smart contract?
A smart contract is a self-executing contract with the terms directly written into code, enabling automated transactions.
When will the dApp launch?
The web3 dApp will be up and running soon after the smart contract is completed.
What is your current status?
We are in the process of writing the smart contract. (PHASE ONE)
What will the Smart Contract do?
The Z-names smart contract will allow the minting of ERC721 compatible Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT). The NFTs will represent ownership of the name chosen as the web3 domain.
The smart contract is written in a way that allows the metadata of the NFT to be used for ownership identification, and the web presence for the domain. The metadata can store links to images or web pages, or can contain plain text for the html. The metadata can be edited by the owner of the NFT.
What will the dApp do?
The dApp is the front-end for the Z-names smart contract acting as a user interface utilizing web3.js and html.
Why would I want to use a web3 domain over the old kind?
Traditional web domains are resolved through DNS, which is centrally controlled by ICANN. Those domain names are registered with ICANN on an annual basis with recurring fees. Forget to renew, and you could lose your domain name.
Our Z-names web3 domains are owned by Non-FungibleTokens. So, a one time fee registers your Z-name for life when you mint your NFT representing your chosen web3 domain name.
